The Derek Jeter Herpes Tree

Yesterday it was reported over at the EC that there is a rumor flying around that Derek Jeter gave Jessica Alba herpes. Now, we don't normally condone such rampant speculation, well we sort of do, alright, we do ... anyway, someone smarter than us has come up with a genius Derek Jeter Herpes Tree. (Image courtesy of Holy Candy.)

Umm ... maybe I'm not as big a Scarlett Johansson fan as I thought I was. Now, Vanessa Minnillo and Mariah Carey ... one of those could be the culprit, right there.

Herpes isn't a fun thing to have, but things like this make it more likely more people will get it.

People don't talk about the actual virus: they simply mock people and stigmatize others based on it.

Preventing it will occur more effectively when people stop making it this mysterious thing used to isolate people, and start talking about how it is really contracted and what it is, instead of making it the easy joke that you did.

Yes indeed. While I don't have herpes yet, I may soon because my life partner does have it. In my research, I have seen just how incredibly easy it is to get and how common it is.

Laugh all you want folks, most likely you'll be effected by it sooner rather than later.

Cheers!

Effect?

Is this post about herpes or the plot to "Invasion"?

most likely be affected? or how about you could be responsble and get tested before you ever have sex, no offense but stds are disgusting, and they do have places where people with them can meet others in the same situation as to stop the spreading.

You treat ppl like that and you will get something worse then herpes. Really Herpes isnt that bad, its a wake up call to not trust anyone and be lucky your ass didnt get something else. So get a life dont act like ppl with it are gross. At least that means they got checked. Get yourself check for eveything I bet you any amount of money you either have something or will in the next 10 years cuz you trut someone and they mess around on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't want to be put in a room and told that these here people have herpes; they are the only kind of people you are allowed to date.

I just think it's a horrible thing to experience Herpes when there are people out there who sleep around with millions and they don't contract a single STD while a person, such as I, contracts it because that person used MY chapstick. Some people are just irresponsible. It's too bad people that DID NOT get it sexually have to now be marked with a "dirty, slutty disease".

Anonymous! So great to see you again! It's your cousin... Anonymous. So, you got yourself the herpes, huh? Wow, that's sad. Well, not so sad as it is pathetic.

Pathetic that people feel compelled to tell the world about what rare, exotic, common, or inflaming virus they have in a blog response. Do you have ANY self-respect? Do you have ANY couth? What is your malfunction - or is it the Herpes talking.

If you want to tell people you have something to HELP OTHERS WHO HAVE it, great. But when you post to preach to the rest of us, we could give a shit. Go find a Herpes support website and lend you unrelenting STD virus to people who are looking for help.

Anyway, take care Anonymous. Say 'hi' to Uncle Anonymous and Aunt Nameless for me. I am including a link that may be of interest to you: www.valtrex.com.

...and I'm still laughing at DCScrap's post. :)

Gotta love the open-mindedness that abounds in here. Honestly, is all the herpes bashing really that necessary? Some people call attention to how those with the virus are stigmatized and treated unfairly...and half the responses in here actually prove those people right! For starters, the CDC estimates that like 60-80% of American adults have HSV1 or HSV2. And, guess what? Cold sores (HSV1) are herpes. With that in mind, a lot of the assholes in here are likely hypocrites (namely hypocrites who think cold sores are ok and genital herpes are only something lowly, immoral people have). I'm willing to bet if they all got a HSV antibody test...a lot of them would subsequently shut up.

Wow guys, herpes is a virus but there's no telling who you can get it from. It could be a completely whorish person you could be with someone for awhile and sleep with them and they could have never had signs of the disease, but passed it on to you. Things happen and it sucks but that doesn't mean people have to be complete assholes. I not going to wish anything on anyone because that's horrible but do know that not everyone that has it is a dirty slut and not everyone that has it has visible signs or even knows they have it. Most STD tests don't even test for it you have to send out for a special test. So I hope that people before they say things about STDs and such just become a bit more educated on the topics because otherwise it just makes everyone look stupid.

Honestly...who the hell cares. Derek Jeter is a person like all of us. Obviously he sleeps around but wouldn't most guys if they could? STDs are an "Every man for himself" kind of thing. It's your responsibility to get your partner tested if you feel the need, it's up to you to check yourself regularly if you are sexually active, and it's up to you to use condoms. Herpes sucks but it's not HIV or anything. It wont kill you, but it is still something to watch out for. I had a scare, and I'm still a virgin, crazy! I took it as a sign to be careful once I do start actually having sex and to be more careful with oral.... you can get almost anything from oral ...so be careful kids.

Al, you put it beautifully! The vast majority of people (about 80%) have HSV1, and 25-30% of the population have HSV2. So, I hate to tell you herpes-bashing commenters... If you don't have herpes, yet, you probably will someday. And guess what? You probably won't even know it.

Condoms are not 100% effective against STDs such as Herpes or HPV. Your only protection is to get your ass tested on a regular basis and if you come up "dirty" then be responsible and discuss it with any potential partner, have them get tested and continue to use protection until you both have made the decision to be monogamous. Bottom line, you CANNOT trust anyone when it comes to an STD.

And, Herpes should be a wake up call. As should HPV. Thankfully, for women aged 15-29 you can get inoculated against certain strains of HPV.

STDs are no laughing matter.

All right people let's get to the point- Everyone who got the herpes disease had intimate contact with some one who spread it to them. Now we all know shit happens but were their sex partners informed before or after? Get real people and live up to being responsible!! There is no sin in having the virus; the sin is spreading it to the unsuspected and justifying that because it happened to you. Be honest or don't get involved spreading your problem to the unsuspecting (innocents).
