Danica Patrick And The "Real" Media Annoy Me
Danica Patrick, a slightly above-average race car driver who happens to be a woman, still has not won a single event in which she has competed. That's not stopping the media from blowing smoke up her well-toned ass though. Last week we mentioned how she got all up in Dan Wheldon's face for what she thought was bad driving on his part and Wheldon responded with this:
From the AP:
"She's messing with the wrong person if she wants to get feisty. I'm a lot tougher than she is on track."Wheldon, who has 13 wins including winning the 2005 Indy 500, gave what I believe to be an appropriate response to Danica challenging him. If Danica wants to be treated like any other driver, i.e. like the men treat each other, that's the kind of thing she's going to have to deal with, just like any other mid-pack driver.
The media just won't give up on its glamour girl though, and still wants to sugarcoat her image to make her out to be more than she really is.
From the same article:
Some are already trying to equate the attractive Patrick, who made waves several years ago by posing for a men's magazine in a scanty outfit, with tennis player Anna Kournikova, who gained notoriety for her good looks and marketability but never won a major event. But Patrick is showing on the track she's far more than just another pretty face. No, she's not. She hasn't won sh*t. She's a driver who has had some decent finishes, but no victories. Quit using references like "attractive" and "pretty face" when it comes to describing her and maybe she will be taken more seriously as a driver. And until she wins, she will always be compared to Anna Kournikova. Not because she is a woman, but because unlike the men in the IndyCar series, she has posed in skimpy outfits for magazines in an attempt to garner attention and generate income, like Anna. This is what will define her until she accomplishes something. She used her looks to assist her in getting where she is, but now she and the media would like us to think of her only for her racing? Sorry, but you can't have it both ways unless she wins or is a consistent top-three finisher. Then she has the right to expect more from us.

great article...I don't understand where Danica gets this ego from. Probably from being told how great she is. I disagree with one assessment: that she's "slightly above" average. Finishing seventh in the IRL is very average.
