Save LT!

San Diego Chargers fans are very nervous. They don't want their franchise player, LaDainian Tomlinson, to appear on the cover of EA Sports Madden '08. Can't say as I blame them. Since 1999 every player to appear on the cover of the Madden series has had something negative befall them.

The list from Wikipedia:

Garrison Hearst (1999): Suffered a bad ankle break and would not play again until the 2001 season.

Barry Sanders and Dorsey Levens (2000): A week before training camp began in 1999, Sanders abruptly retired - ending his career and leaving the Detroit Lions. As for Levens, after rushing for 1,034 yards in 1999, he gained only 224 yards from scrimmage in 2000.

Eddie George (2001): In the season following his appearance on the cover he averaged only 3 yards per carry and rushed for career lows of 939 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Daunte Culpepper (2002): The Vikings struggled to a 4-7 record until Culpepper was shelved with a season-ending knee injury.

Marshall Faulk (2003): He suffered an ankle injury, missing five games and never broke the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the rest of his career.

Michael Vick (2004): Very shortly after Madden 2004 was released featuring Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick on the cover, Vick was injured during a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, suffering a fractured right fibula.

Ray Lewis (2005): He broke his wrist, an injury that kept him out of the last game of the regular season.

Donovan McNabb (2006): During the 2005 season, McNabb suffered a sports hernia in the first game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons. Oh yeah, there was also that little spat with To.

Shaun Alexander (2007): Suffered a fracture in his 4th metatarsal in his left foot which he received during the first game of the season against the Detroit Lions.

So you can see why they're nervous. So nervous in fact that they have started an online petition to keep Tomlinson off of the cover. So if you care about good football, the San Diego Chargers, or have LT on your fantasy team, let EA Sports know how you feel. They only have around 435 signatures so far and need your help.

I don't think LT fans should be that concerned. I actually think Peyton Manning or Reggie Bush is the leading candidate. EA sports already used Bush previously.
