Now Would Be A Great Time To Sell All Your Stock In Upper Deck
If this is the best promotion that Topps' competitior Upper Deck can come up with, then Michael Eisner's decision to buy the sports card giant is a master stroke.
From Upper Deck's press release:
Later this week, Upper Deck is launching its latest sports trading card set, Spectrum Baseball 2007. In those packs along with cards featuring Major League Baseball stars: autographed inserts of celebrities from the 1970s and '80s, actors and musicians whose fame -- like the speed of a Maddux fastball, despite his continued greatness -- has arguably faded in recent years.Oh. My. Goodness. Where to begin?
But all have hope that there's a comeback in the cards for them with this latest outreach to a new fan base, people that might be too young to remember their hit TV shows, movies or songs. Among those involved: Barry Williams ("The Brady Bunch"), Todd Bridges ("Diff'rent Strokes"), and reality television star, Corey Feldman ("Goonies").
"Each of these actors and musicians represent an exciting piece of Americana and pop culture," said Gregg Kohn, Upper Deck's baseball product manager. "Many of my fondest childhood memories were of watching them on television and in movies or hearing them on the radio. Each actor and singer helped in their little way to bring smiles to faces and define an era for many of today's adults."Gregg will also be looking for work very soon if you know of any job openings.
They are also putting out cards with Scotty Schwartz from A Christmas Story (no not the slightly famous blond kid with the glasses, but the one who went on to porn fame to your left), Josh Duhamel from something, and Fergie, the transvestite lead singer of the Black Eyed Peas. And those are the people that they consider to be top-shelf. The rest of the list includes: Leif Garret, Kristy McNichol, Lori Petty, Jeff Conaway, Catherine Bach, Ed O'Neill, Ernie Hudson, Michael Anthony Hall, Tony Burton and Mia St. John. No Shaun Cassidy card?!
I really don't what else to say that those names don't say for themselves. So, how many boxes of these can I put you down for?

Now is the Ed O'Neil card really an Al Bundy/Polk High card??? If it is, I'll take 50 boxes.

A few years ago, I applied for a job as photo editor at Upper Deck, but didn't get it. It was a very disappointing setback.
You sir, have just healed that wound. Thank you.
Wow...just wow.
