What's The Best Sports Movie Of All-Time? (Updated)
Sports news worthy of our attention this time of year is scarce, so what do we do? We break out the polls!!
We will be taking the Top 32 Grossing Sports Movies of all time, putting them in a tournament bracket, and letting you, the fine reader, vote on your favorite. Yes, this has been done 1,000 times, but we're doing it anyway. It's cold, it's snowy, and we are having a hard time getting the image of a bald Britney Spears out of our head.
With that stellar intro, here are the seeds ...
(UPDATE: They are seeded according to how much money they made at the box office, and have been adjusted for inflation.)

(UPDATE #2: I took out the "both versions" for The Longest Yard and for The Bad News Bears. A commenter was right when he said they needed to be separated.)
When we get a minimum of 30 votes for a matchup, we'll move on to the next one. The polls and the results will be posted in the sidebar on the right under "OUR PROJECTS."
(1) Rocky defeats (32) Tin Cup (87% to 13%)

Next up: (3) Rocky IV vs. (30) Bull Durham. (Vote in the right sidebar.)

Caddyshack at 22? I think I need impose a one week suspension on reading the blog now.
They are seeded according to how much money they made at the box office.
Not bad, Scrap. I was a little curious to your order...but the B.O. numbers make sense and offer some good info rather than just opinion. Thanks for reading my post on BugsandCranks...
No self respecting sports fan can vote on both versions of "The Longest Yard" or even "Bad News Bears" for that matter. Both are completely different works from the original, and should be viewed as different entities for the purpose of greatest sports movie discussion.
If you are seeding by box office draw is this also how you selected the top sports movies. If so its only fair that you adjust for the time value of money, which would lower the seed of more recent movies and raise the seed of older movies. Maybe even changing the entire scope of the list.
Last, and discussion of the top sports movies of all time is incomplete without the inclusion of "The Sandlot."
That's just a bit more thought than I want to put into this project. Just for kicks, let's try to muddle through the way it is and see what happens.
After rory's comments I went back and checked my source for the seeding and lo and behold the rankings I used are based on gross ticket sales ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION. Sweet! So there you go.
What happened to Bull Durham? Its definitely the best baseball movie ever made, and being a baseball guy, I contend that its the best and most quotable sports movie ever...
Why the lack of love Scrap man?
TGC, the movies are seeded according to box office receipts. I wanted to see if the money was equal to the love. In several cases it is obviously not (i.e. Bull Durham).
